The hike itself typically takes around 8 to 9 hours, depending on group pace and trail conditions.
What To Expect
This is a challenging mountain hike with significant elevation gain, steep sections, uneven terrain, and a long sustained climb. The route travels through beautiful coastal forest before reaching higher viewpoints with spectacular mountain and ocean scenery.
The standard guided hike visits the Lions viewpoint area and does not include the final technical summit scramble due to safety and liability concerns.

Pickup from Vancouver varies between 4:00 and 6:00 AM depending on the tour date and available daylight. Guests can expect the full experience to take approximately 13 to 15 hours round trip, including transportation, hiking time, breaks, and time at the Black Tusk viewpoint.
What To Expect
This is a challenging full-day mountain adventure with substantial distance and elevation gain. Guests should expect an early start, sustained uphill hiking, uneven trails, and changing alpine terrain.
The route travels through forest, Taylor Meadows, and increasingly rugged volcanic terrain before reaching the established Black Tusk viewpoint. From here, hikers are rewarded with exceptional views across Garibaldi Provincial Park and a close-up perspective of Black Tusk’s unmistakable volcanic formation.

Very Challenging. Recommended for hikers with strong cardiovascular fitness who are comfortable with sustained elevation gain, rugged terrain, and long days on the trail. Previous experience completing hikes of at least 20 kilometres is strongly recommended.
Important Notes
This guided hike travels only to the established Black Tusk viewpoint. The exposed summit scramble and any travel beyond the official viewpoint are not included.
The tour operates only when weather, visibility, daylight, and trail conditions are suitable. BC Parks day-use passes may be required and will be coordinated when applicable. Guests should be prepared for rapidly changing alpine weather and a full day in the mountains.
